Edit 2008-01-10: We are now accepting new user registrations again. I won't hesitate to rescind this if it proves problematic.

---------------------
So, the board has been set to reject new registrations. You can thank saucerfoot/bryan/autistic_annoyance (http://www.codemasters-project.net/vb/sendmessage.php?do=mailmember&u=7726) for this new restriction. He has such a need to be part of this community, in spite of his inability to be a useful member of it, that he's created something like two dozen accounts in the last few months to circumvent bans, and about ten of them just this morning.
If he continues to be a pain in the ass, we'll set the board to read-only with no new registrations allowed. Only admins will be allowed to post. If you don't want to see that happen, feel free to take it up with Bryan. He can be reached in about a score of ways through as many accounts on this forum.
Edit: I really wish there was a way I could drop-kick him out of here that didn't involve punishing others, so to speak. Unfortunately, without having access to the host account, there's not much I can do but work within the parameters provided by vBulletin's admin panels. The person who has that access is often AWOL for weeks at a time. And I'm not going to ask the moderators to patrol 24/7 for Bryan's latest attempt to get around a ban.

WOW, that's pretty extreme. Both the new rules AND saucerfoot's making of like 20 accounts.
EDIT: i'm going to assume that "please give me a chance" is saucerfoot?

Heh, I say whatever measures necessary to keep people like Saucerfoot off of here. No idea why he's so retarded, but the thing is, he should take his destructive attitude somewhere where he can be beat to a pulp for acting in such a way. The fact he made an account named "Autistic Annoyance" proves he has no respect for even the mentally handicapped that he is obviously among the ranks of.
I say setting the boards to Read-only is extreme though, but there doesn't seem to be much else to do about this mental midget that refuses to just leave his superiors alone.
And if whining like a little sissy girl for codes wasn't bad enough, his 20+ accounts also attest to his desire not to get codes, but to make life a bitch for those who DO help out/hack codes/contribute in other ways to this community.
If Saucerfoot/Bryan/Autistic_Annoyance reads this, know you have the ill temper of myself and obviously Pyriel and other admins reigning on you because of your behavior, not because we're assholes.
By the way, how does he keep managing to create new accounts? Wouldn't it get tedious to make account after account just to have them deleted again and again? And why not just torture him before sending his threads to "Now We're cooking with stupid"? Is there any way to ban by IP address on VB?
I can say this about him though. He's persistent, which has earned him minimal respect and massive ill-will from me (Respect because not too many people have the balls to keep coming back where they're hated and bashed, hatred because he refuses to take the fucking hint even when he's getting kicked in the nuts.)

He didn't create the "Autistic_Annoyance" account. Pyriel renamed his saucerfoot account to that.
He's autistic and blames his behaviour on the spectrum. This and other sites are a part of his focus, and he feels that we should put up with his shit because he is autistic.
Yes, VB can set bans by IP, but only administrators can do it. That can potentially be a royal pain in the ass if there are no admins online and us smods have to deal with it. There are only 2 of us that are regularly active and do almost all of the modding.

I don't relish doing any part of this. Extreme measures were employed because nothing else worked, and most of the available options had been tried.
I renamed him to get his attention, since he was just idling on the forum display and the PM panel with his (supposedly) banned account. I was kind of hoping he'd run crying to his aunt or something too. Every time he's gone too far, and wound up kicked the hell out at CMGSCCC, his aunt, or something, has contacted Pelican or CMX, raised holy hell--probably playing some sort of discrimination card--and he's been reinstated. I have to admit, I was a bit curious to see what dealing with them is like, and I would have enjoyed pointing out that the web site is hosted in Germany, belongs to a German, and is essentially a club, not a business, so we could exclude him based on whatever narrow-minded crap we could think up if we wanted. Let alone kicking him out for being an all around detriment to the site.
Edit: I won't explain how he manages to create new accounts, and no one else should either. I expect some provocateur member at CMGSCCC taught him how to exploit that loophole just to tick off whoever was an admin there at the time. It's not rocket science, and other people do it. Most of them just have the common courtesy to remedy their behavior, or at least stay relatively anonymous.

maybe he doesn't have any interest at all in rejoining the site and just feels like being an idiot?
EDIT: do you happen to know how old he is by any chance?

I'm pretty sure he's older than that. He's been haunting the board at CMGSCCC in a similar fashion for six or seven years now, and as I recall he was in his teens when that started. By now, he's in his late teens or early twenties, I believe. I seem to recall Neo saying early twenties, but don't hold me to that.
My understanding is that his condition will leave him dependent for the entirety of his life. While I can sympathize--to the extent allowed by exposure to autistic people on television and a Babysitters' Club book my sister gave me to read on a rainy day when I was nine--there has to come a point where the person's inability to comport himself properly leads to some sort of change. What is expected of him has been explained to him numerous times, and he doesn't get it, or doesn't want to conduct himself appropriately. To my mind, and others seem to agree, that means he either needs to go away, or his visits need to be supervised. So far as I can tell, his family is either unable or unwilling to monitor his internet access. I can't really blame them, but it only leaves one option.
Hell, even if some family member promised to watch him like a hawk, I wouldn't count on it lasting. It's just human nature.

The open registration option has been turned back on. We'll see how it goes.

Relying on one's autism as an excuse for such things is inexcusable. You don't see me being an inconsiderate moron just because I have Asperger's Syndrome (Same family as Autism Spectrum Disorder, but more easily managed by medication and if family works with you enough you can overcome most, if not all, detrimental effects) and then going to my mom to play up my disability as an excuse to not be banned from what is essentially a club and a privilege, not a right or guarantee.
I honestly look down upon such people, and I pity them. I don't think unmonitored internet access should be allotted to those who cannot control their mental faculties, such as highly autistic/mentally retarded people. Honestly I'm amazed one so affected by an illness such as Autism even knows how to type, let alone spell properly or retaliate against admins. If you can use it as an excuse for your behavior, you can't possibly be using the computer yourself.
Anyway, I was considering E-Mailing him, but I took a second thought on it and found that I use too many big words for one such as him to comprehend, and as such I refrained from doing so.
I'm happy open registrations have been reinstated by the way.

i was just thinking of a ip ban when i was reading though the first few posts but like you say its a pain that only admins can ip ban
cant we (or any one) get a admin / admins to agree to let some of the most active mods get admin rights for say a bit at a time so things like this dont happen

Well, for us, it's a bit of a non-issue. As far as I know, he hasn't returned since all this occurred.
From what I can gather, he's pretty well looked-after. The computer is just used in the same way you might plop the kids down for a video to get a moment's peace.

Quoted FGJ.
But you're right. He HAS been told to stop the nonsense again and again. The guy quad posts like there's no tomorrow, and the worse part is he keeps posting every 5 minutes, expecting someone to hack some code/produce some save file in under that time.
Do I think what you did was extreme? Not really...if it solves the problem so be it. You did what had to be done...personally this guy is a cancer of forum sites...and he needs to be dealt with before it's too late.
