I was wondering if it was possible to have codemasters-project to have a IRC channel on any server? I am mostly spending my time on the http://www.rizon.net/, http://www.dejatoons.net/index.php and VillageIRC (site link seems not to be working at the moment).

I'd use it if it was there. I idle in ghsi's channel every now and then. I've never seen anyone actually chat though. Maybe I ought to say hello one of these times. :)

IRC channels hardly take any effort at all to look after, if they are setup properly. We should have a poll. I'd vote yes. However, I highly doubt the userbase here would be interested, for some reason.

To be honest if this site got it's own IRC channel I believe it would just be chit-chat and a small effort with help to users with small problems that can be solved by double clicking something.
All the coding etc should stay in this board! :)

The basic idea would be that the IRC would be mostly chat and help, that way there wouldn't be too many posts about things that aren't related to that game. I have a suggestion, why not make several channels and that they are separate from each other. The first one could be for help and chat, the 2nd one could be for code suggestions and code conversions or something like that.

Now you lost me. A simple chat channel would suffice. All of the other crap should stay on the forums.

The first one would suffice wouldn't you think so Skiller? After all Rizon has a IRC chat client on their site and the same thing could be done on the main site as well.

that would beat the propose of this forum speically 2nd part.

I actually agree with you lee4 about the 2nd suggestion being not a good idea because then the forums would be then useless. So the idea of a chat channel would be it huh? I happen to be running a guild that supports the idea of doing video guides on games and other misc and that its more then chat and help channel, one of the guild members has a radio bot on there where you can listen to music. Its #Silver_Dragon FYI.

I, personally, would use it...
But as has been stated here, what could an IRC chan offer that the forums don't, save for perhaps, for someone to actually talk to Skiller or some other code genius that might, perhaps, take away from Skiller's time to hack nice and better codes for games... :p
I can honestly say, though, that I have a current question that I would like to ask, but I can't figure out which forum/sub-board it would go under, so an IRC chan would be helpful for that... :p
(and for God's sake, can someone PLEASE help DiZ? :p Nah, I'm just messing here... though the guy really is having great trouble with his codes... I really feel sorry for him... T_T )

Well with some IRC clients support the MemoServ command to send memos to that person without actually talking to that person. The command to send a person a memo is: /ms send <Nick> <Message> that way its a whole lot faster. This feature is very convienet among almost all servers that support MemoServ.

Yes, memoserv can be useful.
I'd basically be interested in a channel for real time chat between staff. Waiting for PM's sucks and nobody can be expected to employ a singular IM solution. Real time chat is far more effective.

Both. There doesn't seem to be much interest.

I just found something new, you can create another channel thats separated from the chat and that you can set it where you can set it to invite only or password protected. The only way for you be invited to that channel is if someone on a "invite" only channel invites you. As for the "Key" which prevents others accessing and that you would have to type in the command: //cs #Channel getkey or //cs getkey #channel

Well to have a Chat client set up like how Codebreakers Chat is set up
Java/IRC would work .. but the only thing is it would not be for codes .. it would take over the Chat Forum .. and be minly for Gen Chat and Gen Support.. Requesting would not be placed into there. but i could also see Spaming of one of us hackers happening.. this is about the only reson that i say no to the irc ..
But sending files on an irc client is nice .. saves space on the forum lol

That's what rules are for. Bug a staff member for codes and get kicked, do it again and get temp banned, etc. Topic titles should have NO CODE REQUESTS!!
I don't think the chat it up forum should be removed though.

why not have a forum mod/hack for a chat at the top of the forums

a simple shoutbox would mod is easy enough to install for the boards but I agree with skiller about the IRC channel. I use IRC quite often and its still widely used, BUT having an IRC room would probably result in noobs begging for codes on there... you would be forced to have an op in the channel to keep an eye on things. Outside of that reason, IRC would be excellent since there is no maintenance needed outside of the initial room setup and the need for a constant op to be online.
All in all a shoutbox would be more effective given the current active user count. There arent enough active users to really warrant an IRC room at the moment. And the shoutbox mod they have for vB has moderation options and posting access just like any of the individual forums which would make it very easy for moderators to manage it if needed.

I hate shout boxes and any other script that forces the page I'm viewing to reload. I use greasemonkey and remove it permanently to remove them from any sites I visit that use them.

shoutboxes dont cause the page to reload, only the box itself... any shoutbox that doesn't function that way is a failed script IMO

Regardless, I'm on a slow and limited connection at home and would not welcome a shoutbox at all.

Well according to PJIRC's site, the applet is written Java and its simple to edit. Here's what the base code looks like: <html>
<head>
<title>IRCApplet</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>#Silver_Dragon Guild</h1><hr>
<applet code=IRCApplet.class archive="irc.jar,pixx.jar" width=640 height=400>
<param name="CABINETS" value="irc.cab,securedirc.cab,pixx.cab">
<param name="nick" value="Anonymous">
<param name="alternatenick" value="Anon???">
<param name="name" value="Java User">
<param name="host" value="irc.rizon.net">
<param name="gui" value="pixx">
<param name="command1" value="join #Silver_Dragon">
</applet>
<hr></body>
</html> But this one is for joining mine on the Rizon server. This has some information on how its setup suppose to be: http://www.pjirc.com/help.php?p=1

We aren't a bunch of clueless n00bs. Many of us have been using IRC for over a decade or pretty damn close. There just isn't much interest in it. This is a small site with a user base full of kids that have never felt the warm embrace of woman, other than their mothers. All they want is codes. Just look at the social forums here. Practically empty.
It's more than likely never going to happen. Trust me, it's been discussed and the end of any discussion I've been involved in has always rested on the same issue. No user base to support it.
