I’ve searched through the control panel and I can’t seem to find away to enable them.
I noticed in the board rules there are guidelines for the avatars and nothing saying they aren't supported.

Thanks in advance.

I think that is my problem. There is a radio button already selected that disables the avatar option and I can not unselect it.

yes the mods or admins have to enable the option for all users to have avatars

an admin needs to enable it in the Admin CP.

Admin Cp > Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Registered Members > [Edit Usergroup] GO >

Scroll down to Picture Uploading Permissions

and enable yes for "Can Upload Avatars" (might want to change the size and pixel size too)

At anyrate thank you all!

I can't seem to add an avatar.

I've tried entering a url into the Custom Avatar thing and it just says 'file uploads have been disabled'.

The only other option is no avatar.

It can be one of the following reasons:

1) You went over the limits.

2) The URL doesn't allow hot-linking.

3) An error not allowing you to. Admins will have to look into it.

My site allows hot-linking unless I chooe to disable it.

And I don't think my avatar exceeded the 150x150 limit.

Help I don't know how to get an Avatar! I would like to customize an image off the internet is that possible? I would like to also make one as cool as Full Blown Gamer's is how do I get to do that?

To customize your own Avatar or banner, you'll need Photoshop or something like it, or you can ask someone to make one for you. Another thing is to search for an avatar and if you see one you like, save it then upload it.

Well then can anyone make an Avatar small enough to fit Metallica,Judas Priest, and Slayer's band logo's with my name on it? NOTE: The Slayer logo I want is not the one I have for my sig. its the one with the metal eagle holding a bloody sword with the same sword pennegram I have for my sig. on its stomache. Thanx if you do that.

Ok, well y'know how Skiller's Avitar moves? Well mine in supposed to but its not how do I make it move?

Lucretia
06-18-2006, 05:04 AM
Well in order to have it move it has to be in anaimation..

I don't know what you are saying exactly. It is animated it comes up but doesn't move. Is there some sort of mode I put it in to work? Tell me what to do.

Lucretia

Ok the reason it doesn't move is becasue it must have been resized on a normal jpg PsP program for example( as some people have different graphical programs they use). The only way you can make it move is either make it or resize it with an animation program. Painy Shop Pro has one but there is another one that's called Serif Photo plus 7.

Do you have any graphical programs?

It needs to be an animated gif and it has to be within the file size limits in order to be uploaded.

Actualy, now that I've tried to use an animated gif as my avatar, it says you can't upload animated images.

DarkShadowX

This is completely a guess on my part, but I think only Admins and Mods can have Animated Avatars.

Lucretia
06-18-2006, 09:36 PM
Yeah it does have to be in gif format for animation and those 2 programs I have worked with for resization and depending on what is allowed here. It will be a problem however if only the staff is allowed to have that...Also I might point out that some pics don't look right when it's too small of an animation as far as avatars goes and there's a good chance you may not like it once it is resized, assuming the allowable is only so much.

Thats for profile picture. I tried for that and thats what it said. Forget this one anyway I just want my request made. Is anyone working on that by the way?

Admins can upload them, but members can't? That doesn't seem fair.

bfoos

It's more than fair. Animated avatars are annoying. It's bad enough that people want to put multiple seizure inducing animated gifs in their signatures. We don't need avatars to be animated.

hehe I am sorry for the very 'real' thing about that, but much like the Simpson's and Family Guy, I do find what he said rather funny there......again laughing at cartoons having the seizure fits....the whole Simpson's family a good while bak when they went to Japan, but that reminded me of that and make me burst out laughing at it. (Which I find rather really odd anyway, I mean heck Japan is supposed to be full of ninjas, right and they go mad from dazling lights of the retard show 'poke'mon' of all things, I just find it odd because as an acrobat I never found any lights or any type of sight related thing that ever effected me on my balance and agility....besides all in all 'really' balance is not at all even based on your sight, people just get messed up and make that mistake all the time it seems...the whole don't look down mess.....if someone is that afraid, ofcorse they are going to fall when they look down, or leave a huge stain or anything else really, but still just odd, and again laughing at the cartoons.)

No, sorry, but it's way too big. Find one that fits within the guidelines and you can add it yourself in your UserCP.

Or you can learn to Photoshop. Here's a version of your pic that fits within the rules.

The GIMP (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/) (and Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net)) is an alternative, for those who can't afford Photoshop and don't want to try and pirate Photoshop.

Those are some good looking programs there. To tell the truth, I never knew of either of them - 'til now. Thanks...I'll have to test them out, and see how effective they are for my needs.

However, I simply stuck with Photoshop and Illustrator (and didn't look around for anything else); because, I was trained on them, and at a few hundred bucks, they're not that expensive - considering I am able to produce the desired results that I need/want - both professionally and privately.

What I stated with the aphorism, "learn to Photoshop," obviously applies equally to any image manipulation software: get it, learn it, use it. In the end, whatever works for you - by all means - do it.

GIMP and Paint.NET need their OWN tutorials. They hardly match up to Photoshop at all. Neither have layer effects by default (IE: adding borders around layer objects, and glow effects, etc.) For GIMP though, there's a plugin called fx-foundry. It STILL doesn't do what Photoshop does, because it adds the effect directly to the layer instead of putting them into a list of effects for that layer (IE: You can only remove them via Undo.)
