  • A question about the old "unself.exe", make_self.exe", and "scetool.exe"

    I was porting codes and have noticed the most bizarre thing. I've got 2 games now where somehow in my text files my codes are at different addresses than what I have written down and what I have posted on this site, yet it's the same game disk. I'm beyond baffled on how this is possible. The only thing I remember is the old unself.exe was a bit dodgy with some games if it worked at all, and the "make_self.exe" could throw errors too for some games and then it just seemed like things started working perfectly when scetool.exe was released and I never noticed until about now.



    Were they decrypting/encrypting things wrong and somehow the elf file sizes ended up different with different data, or was there some compression thing??? I've looked at Infamous 2 and thought "How in the hell is the code I found way back then different than what's on the disk for the game now?" I ignored it and thought maybe I overwrote things with wrong codes somehow that I don't know of.



    Now I get to Silent Hill Homecoming and somehow once again the codes I have in my old text file and also posted here on this site are not the same as what they really are in the elf file. I'm now trying to figure out WTF is this magic witchcraftery going on where things in the past have somehow changed. I also remember for Infamous 2 that I and some others could never get hyper2k's codes working for some unknown reason, but when I checked the codes still don't match his either.



    These files were last edited back in February of 2014, and the codes were posted here 10-20-2011, 10:08 AM, what is this??? Anybody have any guesses??? Did Sony make Skynet and it's going into the past and modifying games, or Microsoft? Or Nintend-No? I don't know how to explain this and this would be the most bizarre thing to keep going through old games I did before I started using scetool and suddenly finding things that were there years ago but are no longer there on the same game disk. I didn't just post a bunch of random wrong numbers, every pattern and address was correct when I did them, this doesn't make any sense to me.



    At this point I can't even find my own Invincibility code in Silent Hill Homecoming when I have it correct for the BCES version, the code is unportable.

    If I remeber correctly, when Infamous 2 came out it required 3.60 firmware, at that moment it was problem to decrypt new game, and to start game we used not original files, I believe some time it was something modifed from memory dump, sometime from beta version, like Battlefield 3 or Uncharted 3.

      You're right, I completely spaced on that part where I had to rely on DUPLEX and whoever else to release modifiable eboots. I also realized my Silent Hill Homecoming issue was user error on my end somehow. I only have 1 eboot but somehow ended up decrypting an entirely different game???? No idea how scetoolgui pulled that off but solved that.

        Scetools has a few of its own bugs .. but it works in general i did post Break/Makeself here some time ago it works very clean for Self,Elf,Sprx and so on .. it dont do edats.

          Now that I remember all of this, that means all of my Infamous 2 codes were for a DUPLEX release that may no longer be findable and I might as well re-do all of the codes. I'm trying to think of other games that could have been DUPLEX, I know none of the Disgaeas were and I'm 99% certain Crysis 3 wasn't either.
